Maxogest is a medication that’s prescribed to treat problems with menstruation. These can range from painful, heavy periods and irregular periods to endometriosis.
Maxogest contains the active ingredient Medroxyprogesterone, a synthetic form of the naturally occurring hormone progesterone, which regulates the menstrual cycle.
You can also take Maxogest to delay your period until a more convenient time.
The active ingredient in Maxogest replaces the lack of the hormone progesterone in the body, which can cause the painful or problematic symptoms of the menstrual cycle. It can also regulate the growths outside the uterine wall, such as what occurs with endometriosis.
Maxogest 10 mg tabs are the strongest option to treat problems with menstruation, but a lower dosage may be enough for you to control the symptoms. So, there are also 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets.
Your doctor may start you on the lowest dosage and work up to a more powerful tablet if needed to lower the risk of side effects.

It is important that you follow the precise instructions for your specific condition to get the best results from your treatment. This means taking the right dosage at the right time and making sure that you do not miss any tablet.
Use of Maxogest tablets for periods is common for various painful and distressing symptoms. These can include heavy periods, painful periods, missed periods and irregular periods, which includes too frequent or infrequent menstruation.
Timing is key for taking Maxogest for these symptoms. Your doctor will ideally advise you to start the course 5 or 6 days before your scheduled period date and you’ll have to take it for five days in total. You should continue its use for two months at the same part of your cycle. A course of estrogen may also be required during this time if the symptoms persist.
Endometriosis is a painful condition where the lining of the womb starts to develop in areas where it should not be found. This includes the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Maxogest has been found to provide significant relief for mild to moderate cases.
Endometriosis will generally require a longer course of Maxogest 10 mg tablets than would be expected for menstrual related treatments. During this time you may experience spotting and irregular bleeding.

Like Maxogest, there are some other medicines which contain the same active ingredient—Medroxyprogesterone but come under different brand names like Provera, Medogram, Gruvimed and Degory Tablet.
These medicines work in the same way as Maxogest and are as effective. Before using Maxogest, it’s important to read the patient information leaflet that comes with it.
