Prevent N is a medicine that is used to treat various conditions relating to the menstrual cycle, including heavy periods and missed periods.
The active ingredient in Prevent N is norethisterone, a synthetic version of the naturally occurring hormone progesterone. Progesterone plays a key role in the menstrual cycle, regulating everything from its timing to blood flow.
The active ingredient in Prevent N, norethisterone, is a man-made version of the hormone progesterone. It has the same effect on the body as the naturally occurring hormone.
Progesterone levels peak each month, leading to the womb becoming fertile and producing an egg. If pregnancy does not occur, these levels drop, shedding the womb lining. But when the womb lining sheds, muscles around it contract to help break the lining and release it from the uterine wall. By maintaining higher levels of progesterone, this can help regulate or alter the cycle, so the womb lining does build up as much. Muscles then don’t need to contract as hard to release the lining, and this helps provide relief from discomfort.
Prevent N comes in one dosage: 5mg. Depending on the severity of your symptoms or the reason you’re taking it for, your doctor may ask you to take more than one tablet a day.
If you find that the prescribed dose isn’t working well, you can consult our doctor for advice. Your dose may need to be increased, or our doctor may recommend other treatments that are available for you to try.

It is important that you follow your doctor’s advice when taking Prevent N tablets to get the best results from the treatment.
Swallow the tablets as a whole with or without meals, preferably at the same time every day. You should never stop taking it or change the prescribed dose without consulting your doctor. Get in touch with your doctor if you get any side effects.
Prevent N 5mg Tablet is a synthetic hormone that does the same action as the natural hormone progesterone. It slows the growth and shedding of the womb lining before your menstruation and this decreases bleeding during your periods, giving you respite from heavy bleeding.
Prevent N also restricts the activity of estrogen (hormone which helps the growth and thickening of the uterine lining) and thus helps reduce cramps or pain during your periods. If you have high estrogen levels, your uterine lining will be thicker and as a result you’ll experience heavy bleeding and pain. So, it’s important that there is a balance between your progesterone and estrogen levels.
If you’re taking Prevent N for heavy or painful periods, you’ll usually take it for between five and ten days of your cycle. This will depend on how long and heavy your bleeding is and the input from your doctor. Start taking the tablets on the fifth day of your cycle. You can measure this easily, as the start of your period is the very first day.
Endometriosis is a painful disorder where tissue that usually lines within your uterus (the endometrium) grows outside it, in other places. It often grows on your ovaries and fallopian tubes. When the uterine lining thickens and sheds during your period, the tissue growing outside the uterus bleeds, too. This bleeding causes heavy and painful periods. Prevent N restricts the shedding and growth of the lining of your uterus, and this prevents the tissue from bleeding.
You’ll have to take Prevent N regularly to get significant relief from the distressing discomfort of endometriosis. Depending on the severity, your doctor may advise you to take it with other medicines or may increase your dose, if you feel it isn’t working the way you want. While taking Prevent N, if you experience any changes or discomfort, let your doctor know.
If you miss a Prevent N dose, don’t worry. Just continue to take your next tablets as you normally do. Never take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
For Prevent N to work at its best, it’s important to take it as prescribed by your doctor. If you keep forgetting to take it or missing doses, talk to your doctor for advice. They may be able to suggest a different treatment that better fits your schedule.
