Mintop is clinically proven to provide an effective treatment for male pattern baldness.
The causes of baldness will play a large part in whether Mintop is effective. It’s specifically designed to treat male pattern baldness which starts at the top of the scalp, although it can have an effect on some other types of hair loss.
We can help you decide whether Mintop will be effective for you, or if another treatment might be better. Tell us about your health to get expert recommendations from our doctor.
How long does it take Mintop to work?
Some men may find that Mintop takes three months to become effective, but everyone is different. If you haven’t noticed any change within four months you should have a chat with our clinician about other options.
It’s recommended that you take Mintop for at least two months before deciding if the treatment is working, as it will likely take at least this amount of time before you see its effects.
Does Mintop work for complete baldness?
If you’ve been bald for a long period of time or the area of your scalp in question is large and bare, you’re unlikely to get much benefit from using Mintop.
Mintop cannot completely reverse baldness, but it can greatly help men with mild to moderate symptoms that haven’t been present for a number of years.

What should I do before I start Mintop?
You should clean your hands before and after using Mintop’s topical solution, as well as any areas of the body that came into contact with it. It’s also important to make sure your hair and scalp are completely dry so the solution can be absorbed fully.
The solution is designed to melt into the skin quickly. This becomes quicker when the skin is warm, so it’s best to make sure your hands are cool to the touch before handling Mintop. If your hands need cooling, rinse them under a cold tap and dry thoroughly before use.
How to apply the Mintop solution
Firstly, make sure your hair and scalp are dry before applying Mintop. Then, apply only the amount the doctor instructs you to the area affected. Mintop comes with an applicator that’s specially designed to apply to the scalp evenly.
If in doubt, refer to the patient information leaflet that comes with the treatment. Using the product as instructed will provide the best results with the minimum of risk of side effects.
Applying, leave it alone to work its magic. Don’t shampoo, rinse or use a hair dryer for at least four hours after applying Mintop. You should also wash your hands immediately after use so that you don’t transfer it to others or ingest it while eating.
What should I do if I forget to use it?
If you forget to take a dose of Mintop just carry on taking it as you normally would. While it’s ideal if you can remember to take it perfectly, a missed application here and there won’t make much of a difference. You shouldn’t take two doses of Mintop to make up for a missed dose.
When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. And we’ll only present data as clinically reliable if it’s come from a reputable source, such as a state or government-funded health body, a peer-reviewed medical journal, or a recognised analytics or data body. FAQ: Mintop
Have something specific you want to know about Mintop? Search our info below, or ask our experts a question if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
What should I do if I use too much Mintop?
Answer:
While Mintop is generally a very safe treatment for most men, you should seek immediate medical attention if you’ve taken too much. So that the medical staff can treat you as quickly and accurately as possible, take the treatment with you to the hospital.
It should be noted that there’s no advantage to taking more Mintop than is recommended. Your hair won’t grow any quicker or thicker by doubling the dosage and you’ll only increase the risk of side effects and health risks by doing so.
Can I buy Mintop without a prescription?
Answer:
Yes. Mintop is available without a prescription. But it still makes sense to speak with an expert before taking Mintop for the first time so that they can see if it will be suitable for you.
While most men can use it safely, there are a few issues that can occur for some men. If side effects are causing you problems, get in touch with us.
What will new hair look like if it grows back?
Answer:
To begin with, new hair will appear light and fluffy, but it should get thicker and more natural looking over time. It should eventually look the same as the rest of your hair.
While you shouldn’t expect your hair to grow back to its original thickness all over your head, it should look natural, thicker and healthy.
Can I dye my hair while using Mintop?
Answer:
You can dye your hair or treat it as you normally would as long as you don’t interfere with the action of Mintop when it’s applied.
You can let your hairdresser know you’re using Mintop so that they can treat your scalp more gently and avoid breaking new and delicate hair. This might mean using a wide toothed comb and more generally taking care when styling.
Can everyone use Mintop?
Answer:
Mintop is usually only recommended for men aged between 18 and 49. It can be used for men under the age of 18 who have some thinning for a short period of time. It’s unlikely if you’ve been bald for a long time that Mintop will work for you.
Mintop works best for men whose hair is thinning at the top of the scalp. But that’s not to say that other men can’t benefit from the treatment, so you can still use it if your hair’s thinning at the temples.
Can women use Mintop?
Answer:
Mintop is for men only and should not be used by women. Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Mintop, will not provide any benefits for female pattern baldness and can present a serious health risk.
There is a version of Mintop that’s suitable for women, so if you’re a woman who’s having issues with hair loss, let us know.
Are there other medicines similar to Mintop?
Answer:
Yes. There are several brands that contain the same active ingredient, minoxidil, as Mintop. Minoxidil is available as its own generic product, across the various dosages. Other brands include Rootz M-10, Imxia, Coverit, MX 10 topical solution, Tugain, Rogaine and Minoxy.
