Tiniba 500 contains the active ingredient tinidazole. It is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial and parasitic infections.
Tinidazole is also an antiprotozoal. These medications are used to treat protozoa (tiny, one-celled organisms) infections like giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and amebiasis. It is also used in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
Bacterial vaginosis happens when the amount of healthy bacteria in your vagina decreases. The amount of beneficial bacteria (called lactobacilli) found in the vagina can lessen when there is a presence of bad bacteria in the vagina. Tinidazole, the active ingredient in Tiniba 500 is effective against various anaerobic bacteria and some parasites, making it particularly useful in treating BV and other infections caused by these types of microorganisms.
Tiniba 500 works to get rid of bacterial vaginosis (BV) by attacking the specific bacteria causing the infection. It works by interfering with the DNA of these tiny organisms, which stops them from growing and helps clear up the infection.
Tiniba comes in two doses of 300mg and 500mg of tinidazole. When prescribed for bacterial vaginosis, your doctor will usually ask you to take Tiniba 500 twice a day for five days. Tiniba 300 is often prescribed for milder cases of dental infections, stomach and liver infections.
