Combined contraceptive pill that prevents unwanted pregnancies.

Crisanta is a combined contraceptive pill that is manufactured by Cipla Ltd. Combined oral contraceptives contain two active ingredients, providing an extremely high level of protection against unwanted pregnancies.
Crisanta pills are also available at a lower dosage, called Crisanta LS, for those who might have problems tolerating the high dose. You’ll take Crisanta pills for a set number of days in a row, then have a break, before starting your next strip.
With Crisanta, this is 21 days taking a pill, followed by a 7 day break. For Crisanta LS, this is 24 days taking a pill, followed by a four day break.
There are two active ingredients in Crisanta: ethinyl estradiol, a synthetic form of the hormone oestrogen, and drospirenone, a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. The natural versions of these hormones rise and fall throughout the menstrual cycle, and this triggers actions like ovulation and the thickening of the lining of the womb.
So these two hormones in the pill override this cycle, and work in combination to stop the body doing what it needs to make itself ready for pregnancy.
There are three things the combined pill does to help stop you from becoming pregnant. The main function is that it stops ovulation, so you don’t release an egg ready to be fertilised by sperm.
Besides preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg, Crisanta also thickens the vaginal mucus in the neck of the womb. This protective barrier makes it difficult for the sperm to reach the egg.
Crisanta also thins the lining of the womb, preventing an egg from being able to settle there if it does become fertilised.

Taking Crisanta is simple, but make sure you follow instructions given by your doctor when you do. If there’s anything you aren’t sure about, let us know.
If you forget to take a dosage, take it as soon as possible. Missed doses, particularly at the start of the course, can result in unwanted pregnancies. So, you may want to use another form of contraception for seven days until full protection is restored.
There are two versions of Crisanta. The regular dose, called Crisanta, contains 0.03mg ethinyl estradiol (oestrogen) and 3mg drospirenone (progesterone). The lower dose, Crisanta LS, contains the same progesterone dose but only 0.02mg ethinyl estradiol. So LS is a better option if you’re slightly sensitive to oestrogen side effects.
We can help you find the dosage of Crisanta that works best for you.
