Endogest is an oral medication used in HRT. It contains a hormone that’s very similar to progesterone (called a synthetic progestin or progesterone-like compound). Progestins are commonly prescribed along with oestrogen as part of HRT for menopausal or postmenopausal women.
Endogest can help restore hormonal balance and is often given to women taking oestrogen therapy for menopausal symptoms or to prevent osteoporosis. The progesterone component helps to lower the risk of endometrial hyperplasia associated with oestrogen use.
During menopause, your body starts to produce less of the female hormones oestrogen and progesterone. This can cause symptoms like hot flushes, vaginal dryness, chills, night sweats, sleep problems, and mood changes.
Endogest, which is a progesterone, is prescribed alongside oestrogen to help supplement these hormones and restore the balance between them in menopausal and postmenopausal women. This balance reduces the risks associated with using oestrogen therapy alone.
Endogest is usually prescribed to women who are aged between 45-55 and are experiencing symptoms related to menopause or are post menopausal.
It is usually prescribed in combination with oestrogen-only treatments to women who have a healthy uterus and who do not have a history of breast cancer or uterine cancer. It is also not recommended for women who have gone through a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus). Women who have had a hysterectomy can take oestrogen-only HRT because they don't have the same risks (they can’t get endometrial hyperplasia because they don’t have an endometrium as it’s the inner lining of the uterus.).

Follow doctor’s instructions when taking Endogest. The dosage and frequency of taking the pills will depend on your medical history and the symptoms.
For example, if you’re recommended for continuous treatment, you may need to take Endogest every day. If you’re recommended cyclical or sequential treatment, you might only need to take Endogest on certain days each month.
Never take more than the recommended dosage at once. In case you miss a dose, read the patient information leaflet or ask your doctor for general guidelines on what to do during those situations.
The time it takes for Endogest to work can vary from person to person and also depends on the symptoms it is being used to treat. In a trial it was found that for women who experience sleep disturbances, Endogest helped them achieve deeper and sound sleep.
With HRT, it may take some trial and error to figure out which treatment is working best for you. Chat with one of our doctors and they will check in and monitor your progress.
If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time to take the next dose, then just skip the missed tablet.
If you’ve taken a double dose or more than you should, talk to your doctor or visit the hospital immediately.
