Doxt-SL is a type of medicine that fights off various infections. It can also help prevent you from getting malaria when you're traveling in places where the disease is common. It works well against different types of germs and provides protection in all areas where malaria is a risk.
Malaria is a serious illness spread by mosquitoes. Just one bite from an infected mosquito can make you sick, so it's important to take steps to stay safe.
To lower your chances of getting malaria, it's recommended to start taking Doxt-SL two days before going to a place where malaria is a risk. Keep taking it every day while you're there, and for four weeks after you return home. This longer treatment plan keeps you protected, even if you've been bitten by a mosquito carrying malaria without knowing it.
Doxt-SL functions by shielding you from contracting malaria if you're bitten by an infected mosquito while traveling. Tetracycline antibiotics, such as doxycycline, act as prophylaxis, meaning they're a preventative medication that can halt the development of a disease. These prophylactic antibiotics eradicate harmful bacteria by disrupting their protein structure.
Starting with the antibiotic regimen two days before entering a high-risk malaria area ensures that the medication is already active in your system. Unlike other methods of malaria prevention, you should keep using doxycycline for four weeks after you return. This is because if you are bitten by an infected mosquito, there is an incubation period before symptoms show up, which can range from seven to thirty days.
Doxt-SL comes in a single strength dosage of 100mg doxycycline and 5 billion spores of lactobacillus. Each pill pack contains 10 capsules and you should take one a day throughout your stay and for an additional four weeks after you return.

As a once-daily antibiotic, Doxt-SL is a simple and convenient medicine to take, even for those with busy schedules. Swallow the capsules with plenty of water and aim to take them at the same time for optimal effectiveness. Establishing a consistent routine, such as taking Doxt-SL in the morning or setting a daily alarm while traveling, can help you stay on track.
To minimize the risk of stomach irritation and indigestion, it's recommended to take Doxt-SL while sitting or standing and to remain upright for at least an hour afterward.
Tetracyclines get into your bloodstream fast when you start taking them, but it takes a couple of days to feel their full effects as antibiotics. That's why you start taking Doxt-SL before you go to a place where malaria is common – it needs time to build up in your system to keep you safe once you're there.
You need to keep taking the antibiotic after your trip just in case you were bitten by a malaria-carrying mosquito without realizing it. Doxt-SL protects you before, during, and after your journey.
If you happen to miss taking a capsule at your regular time, try to take it as soon as possible. Since you're only taking one each day, there's no need to take two if you miss a dose entirely. Just continue with your normal schedule, and Doxt-SL will continue to work effectively.
Completing your entire prescription is crucial, even if you're feeling well. This ensures that you're fully shielded against malaria.
