Doxinate OD contains a combination of doxylamine and pyridoxine and is used to help reduce feelings of nausea and the urge to vomit. When these two medications are combined in higher doses like in Doxinate OD, they work together to ease or minimize feelings of queasiness, and to decrease the likelihood of vomiting.
Your doctor will usually prescribe Doxinate OD when lower dose medications haven’t been strong enough to control your nausea, or in cases of severe morning sickness during pregnancy.
Both active ingredients in Doxinate OD work in different ways to control nausea and vomiting. Doxylamine, which is an antihistamine, is commonly used to treat allergies, but it also blocks signals in the brain that trigger nausea. Pyridoxine, which is a type of Vitamin B6, helps with various things in the body, one of which is reducing the levels of substances that can make you feel queasy or cause nausea.
So, when you take both doxylamine and pyridoxine together, they work against nausea in different ways. This combined effect can help make morning sickness more manageable.
Doxinate OD comes in a fixed dose of 20mg doxylamine and 20mg pyridoxine. It is often prescribed to tackle nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) where a lower dose of 10mg doxylamine and 10mg pyridoxine hasn’t been able to manage the symptoms.

You should take Doxinate OD under the guidance of a doctor. If you are unsure about how to take it, you can chat with one of our doctors who will be there to answer your questions anytime during your treatment with us.
Usually, you are supposed to take Doxinate OD along with a glass of water and preferably at the same time everyday for maximum effectiveness. You may need to avoid certain kinds of food or drink that could worsen your nausea, so do inform your doctor about your daily diet and ask for advice if you aren’t sure.
Since it is a high dosage medication, some women may experience reduction in the urge to vomit within about 30 minutes to an hour after taking Doxinate OD.
However, for others, it might take a bit longer to notice the effects – sometimes up to a few hours after taking the medication. In some cases, it might require regular use over a few days to achieve maximum benefit in providing relief from morning sickness.
You must only take as much Doxinate OD as recommended by your doctor. Never double the dose even if you have forgotten to take one. If you accidentally take more than the prescribed dosage, contact a doctor or visit the hospital immediately.
