What is Stemetil MD?

Stemetil MD is available in tablet form and is prescribed to address various conditions causing feelings of nausea and dizziness. It contains prochlorperazine and is also used to treat other nausea inducing conditions like ménière's disease, and BPPV (or vertigo).

It is also used to treat morning sickness. While morning sickness is a commonly known term, pregnancy-induced nausea and vomiting can persist throughout the day. Experiencing these symptoms in the early stages of pregnancy is normal. However, if your symptoms get severe, last throughout the entire pregnancy, or interfere with your ability to consume food and fluids, you must see a doctor.

How does Stemetil MD work?

Stemetil MD stops dopamine from delivering nausea signals to the brain. Dopamine is one of the hormones that helps control the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) or vomiting centre in the brain. When you have too much dopamine, it activates the vomiting centre, resulting in nausea and vomiting. Dopamine is a chemical messenger that your body produces and utilises to deliver signals between nerve cells.

Prochlorperazine, the active ingredient in Stemetil MD, intercepts these messages, especially the one telling your brain that it's time to feel queasy or nauseous, effectively protecting you from experiencing unpleasant nausea symptoms.

What doses of Stemetil MD are there?

Stemetil MD is available in two doses: 3mg and 5mg. The dose your doctor prescribes will depend on your capacity to handle the medicine, your age, and the condition for which it's being prescribed.

How to take Stemetil MD

Make sure to do what your doctor tells you about taking Stemetil MD. If you've got any questions, just log into your account and shoot us a message.

• Remove Stemetil MD from its packaging. Avoid chewing or swallowing the tablet.
• Place a Stemetil MD tablet between the gums and cheek and let it dissolve and be absorbed.
• It might take a few minutes for the tablet to completely dissolve, so try not to chew or swallow it. Some tablets may leave a residue after dissolving, which is normal.
• Try to avoid eating or drinking until the tablet has fully dissolved to allow proper absorption of the medication.

How long does it take for Stemetil MD to work?

Stemetil MD typically kicks in about 30-60 minutes after you take it, so it should start helping with your sickness quite soon. Although it usually takes about a week for Stemetil MD to reach steady levels in your body.

If you've been taking Stemetil MD for a few days and your nausea hasn't gotten better, talk to your doctor again. If your nausea gets worse or you notice signs of severe dehydration, seek immediate medical help.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Stemetil MD?

If you take too much Stemetil MD, go to the doctor right away. Bring the medicine packaging so they know what you took. You might feel dizzy or tired. If you do, don’t drive.

If you forget to take Stemetil MD when you usually do, just wait for your next dose. Don’t take two doses at once to catch up. Avoid keeping the tablets on your skin for too long because they can make your skin red and irritated. Stemetil MD can make you more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen and cover up when you're outside.
