Telura tablets contain three active ingredients: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, lamivudine, and efavirenz. It is primarily used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in adults.
Telura tablet belongs to a class of medications called antiretrovirals, which work by suppressing the replication of the HIV virus in the body, slowing down the progression of the disease, and improving the immune system's function.
You can also take Telura to lower your chances of getting HIV if you’re at a risk of exposure to it. This stops the virus from establishing itself in the body if you come into contact with it.
Telura is a combination medication that helps prevent the transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. It contains three active ingredients: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, lamivudine, and efavirenz. When you take Telura, these three components work together to stop the virus from reproducing and spreading in your body.
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and lamivudine are like barriers that block an important enzyme called reverse transcriptase. This enzyme is needed by the virus to make copies of itself. These medications prevent the virus from multiplying and infecting more cells in your body. A clinical study found that PrEP medications like Telura protect against HIV-1 infection in both men and women.
When taken consistently and correctly, Telura has been shown to be highly effective in reducing the risk of HIV transmission. Clinical studies have demonstrated that when used as directed, Telura can significantly reduce the chances of acquiring HIV infection.
Studies have indicated that with proper and consistent use, PrEP medications like Telura can reduce the risk of HIV infection by more than 90% in individuals who are at high risk of acquiring the virus. However, it's important to note that no prevention method is 100% foolproof, and there is still a small chance of acquiring HIV even while on PrEP.

Telura works best when taken at the same time everyday. It is best to take it on an empty stomach. Even if you start to feel better, you must not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Your doctor will set the frequency of your dosage based on your symptoms. They may also ask you to get regular kidney check-ups to keep a check on your kidney health.
Telura reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% when taken as prescribed. But how quickly it works depends on the type of sex you’re having. You must take Telura pills for at least a minimum of seven days before having receptive anal intercourse in order to be protected. It needs at least twenty days of daily usage before vaginal sex to become fully effective.
If you forget to take Telura, it is important to take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If you remember within 24 hours, take the missed dose as soon as possible.
If your next scheduled dosing time is near, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses to make up for the missed one.
