Montomer L is a combination treatment for allergic rhinitis symptoms and can also be used to treat the symptoms of asthma.
Montomer L contains the active ingredients levocetirizine and montelukast. It helps to reduce allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling and congestion and also reduces lung and airway inflammation associated with asthma.
It’s a branded medicine and is also available as Montemac-L, Montair LC, Levocet M, Montina-L, Montek LC and Odimont-LC. These medicines all work in a similar way, but the appearance of the tablets and packaging may vary.
When you come into contact with a substance that you are allergic to, your body reacts by producing histamine. This tells your body to excrete the allergen by making your nose run and your eyes water. Often, your body’s response is exaggerated and responds to things that really pose little harm to your health and immune system such as pollen, pet hair and certain foods. Levocetirizine belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. These work to regulate your body’s histamine production and stop the effects we associate with an allergic reaction.
In those with asthma, the airways are sensitive and become swollen and lined with mucus when they are exposed to certain triggers such as pollutants, pollen and certain foods. Montelukast helps to keep your airways open when they become inflamed, preventing breathlessness and asthma attacks.
When these two medicines combine in Montomer L, they work to reduce the symptoms of allergic reaction and to treat the symptoms of asthma and help to lower the risk of an asthma attack.
Montomer L is available in one dosage size, and contains the following active ingredients: levocetirizine 5mg and montelukast 10mg.
Your doctor will talk to you about your health and medical history before advising whether Montomer L is suitable for you. Once you start taking your medication, your doctor will monitor your progress closely and this will inform them about any changes needed. If Montomer L doesn’t work for you there may be other treatments that you can try. Your doctor will help you to explore other treatment options to find what works best for you.
