Glycinorm M is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. It’s known as a combination treatment because it contains two active ingredients- metformin and gliclazide.
Metformin is one of the most commonly used drugs to treat type 2 diabetes. Glycinorm M is often prescribed when one medication alone isn’t effective at controlling blood sugar levels and treating type 2 diabetes.
When taking Glycinorm M you’ll need to monitor and record your blood sugar levels so that your doctor can check if the treatment is working for you. As you’re monitored, your doctor may make adjustments to your treatment and may also suggest that you take it alongside other treatments for type 2 diabetes.
Some alternatives of Glycinorm M are Reclimet, Glizid M, Glykind M, Dianorm M, Diamicron Mex, Glychek M, Glycigon M and Euclide M. These medications all work in a similar way but the pills and packaging of each may differ in appearance.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to its own insulin. Where high levels of glucose have been present in the blood for a prolonged period of time, the insulin in your body finds it more difficult to process the glucose and lower its concentration in the blood, and this causes the high blood sugar levels associated with type 2 diabetes.
Glycinorm M contains two ingredients that treat type 2 diabetes. Gliclazide encourages the pancreas to secrete more insulin than it normally does so that there’s more available to be used in the body to process glucose. Metformin makes the insulin more sensitive and therefore easier for the body to make use of.
The combination of the two active ingredients in Glycinorm M, when used alongside a low carbohydrate diet and an active lifestyle, should decrease and then stabilise blood glucose levels.
It may take some time before Glycinorm M works in the way that you need it to, and your doctor will monitor your blood glucose levels as you take your treatment so that they can make the adjustments needed to ensure that you get the right treatment for you.
There are three different dosage sizes available and your doctor will advise you about which dose is best for you to start on. After you’ve started your treatment, your doctor will regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and then make adjustments to your treatment if needed.

Always take Glycinorm M exactly as directed by your doctor. You will usually be told to:
Metformin does not lower blood sugar levels instantly, and usually takes 48 hours to reduce the amount of glucose measured in the blood. It’s most effective after it has been taken for 4-5 days.
If taken thirty minutes before a meal, gliclazide can have an effect on blood sugar levels within 30 minutes. If it’s taken after food the time it takes to take effect can triple. This is why doctors recommend that it’s taken before the first meal of the day.
If you forget to take Glycinorm M you should take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for you to take your next dose you should miss the forgotten dose and carry on taking your treatment as you normally would. Never take a double dose of Glycinorm M.
If you take too much Glycinorm M you should seek medical attention straight away. Take your medication with you so that the doctor can see how much you’ve taken.
