Triolmezest is a combination treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains three active ingredients: olmesartan medoxomil, amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide. It’s usually prescribed when taking one of the ingredients alone hasn’t been successful at lowering blood pressure or if there is a greater risk of complications.
When taking Triolmezest you’ll need to monitor your blood pressure on a regular basis. This can be done by a doctor or at home. Your doctor will use these readings to inform adjustments that need to be made such as increasing or decreasing the dose of Triolmezest that you take.
Triolmezest is usually taken once a day and is a long term treatment for high blood pressure. It’s important to take it until your doctor tells you to stop. It is also helpful in lowering the chances of heart attack and stroke.
There are treatments similar to Triolmezest like Triolmighty 40, Olmetime-AMH 40, Triolvance 40, Triolmesar 40, Ibolme Trio and Olsavas 3D. These treatments all work in the same way, but may appear different due to packaging or because they’re manufactured by different companies.
The heart works to pump blood around the body via arteries. When the arteries are narrowed it makes it more difficult for the blood to flow through them because it meets with pressure, this is what is meant by high blood pressure.
When you measure your blood pressure there are two elements being measured: the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats and the pressure in your arteries between the beats. A doctor will look at these factors when prescribing a treatment to reduce your high blood pressure.
Olmesartan medoxomil prevents the production of the substance that causes the arteries to become narrow. This helps to make it easier for the blood to flow around the body and therefore reduces blood pressure. This is sometimes prescribed as a treatment for high blood pressure on its own.
Amlodipine belongs to a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers. These medications work to prevent the movement of calcium in the arteries. This helps to lower blood pressure. Many combination treatments contain amlodipine as it works well with medicines, such as olmesartan medoxomil, which relax arteries.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, which means that it removes water from the body. There’s some water in your blood and by removing this with the use of a diuretic the amount of fluid that needs to pass through the arteries is reduced. This makes it easier for the blood to flow and therefore reduces blood pressure.
These three effective and powerful medications combine in Triolmezest to offer a comprehensive treatment for high blood pressure that is usually prescribed when using one of the ingredients alone hasn’t proven successful at lowering blood pressure.
Triolmezest is available in two dosage sizes:
20mg - Olmesartan Medoxomil (20mg) + Amlodipine (5mg) + Chlorthalidone (12.5mg)
40mg - Olmesartan Medoxomil (40mg) + Amlodipine (5mg) + Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mg)
After knowing your symptoms and medical history, your doctor will be able to suggest the right dose for you. Your blood pressure and reaction to Triolmezest will then be monitored to see if any changes are necessary.
It’s common to start on a lower dose of treatment and then increase the dose if it doesn’t lower your blood pressure. If Triolmezest does not suit you, or isn’t effective, there are other options that your doctor will discuss with you. These include switching to another combination treatment and taking a single medication.
