Stamlo D is a treatment for high blood pressure. It contains two active ingredients: amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide.
You might have been prescribed amlodipine or hydrochlorothiazide separately before, to treat high blood pressure. Stamlo D offers the option to take just one tablet instead of two. In some cases, your doctor may suggest that you take Stamlo D alongside other individual treatments in order to lower your high blood pressure.
When you start taking Stamlo D, your doctor will monitor your health and blood pressure closely to make sure that your treatment is working, and to allow for changes to your treatment. If you’re unable to take Stamlo D, or find that it’s not working well for you, your doctor will be able to advise you about alternatives.
Stamlo D is a branded medication and is also available under other names, including Amivo H, L Core, Amiokind-H, Adp H and also Aldo H. All of these treatments contain the same active ingredients and work in a similar way, but the tablets and packaging of each may differ.
The heart pumps blood around the body in order to deliver oxygen to important organs like the brain and lungs. When vessels in the body tighten and narrow, it becomes more difficult for the blood to pass through the vessels. This causes the heart to pump a high level of force as it tries to get blood around the body. This is what causes high blood pressure or hypertension.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). Calcium helps in the normal functioning of smooth muscle cells that line the blood vessels. Sometimes excessive calcium might stiffen the blood vessel walls. By blocking calcium from entering muscle cells in blood vessels, amlodipine helps to relax your blood vessels. It also releases Nitric oxide which helps in dilating the blood vessels and thus lowers your blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a type of medication called a diuretic. It works to reduce the levels of water and salt in the body, and this helps to lower the total ‘volume’ of your blood.
A decreased total volume will lower the total load on your heart to pump, thus reducing your blood pressure levels. If you have more water and salt in your blood it’s harder for your heart to pump around, and this increases blood pressure.
So, with less water present, it’s easier for your blood to flow around your body and this reduces blood pressure levels.
There’s only one dose of Stamlo D available. The tablet contains 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide and 5mg of amlodipine.
Stamlo D is usually used to replace individual treatments containing the active ingredients. Sometimes, but not often, your doctor may suggest that you take Stamlo D together with supplemental hydrochlorothiazide and amlodipine to help adjust the dose. But it’s more likely they’ll change you back to individual treatments instead.
If Stamlo D isn’t effective, your doctor will be able to suggest an alternative treatment.

Always take Stamlo D exactly as directed by your doctor.
You will usually be told to take one tablet a day, at the same time each day, and swallow whole with water.
Stamlo D can start to take effect within a couple of hours. It usually takes up to four weeks for it to take full effect and it usually works to lower blood pressure to a consistent level within eight weeks.
But the length of time it takes for Stamlo D to work depends on how you react to it. When you start taking Stamlo D your doctor will monitor your health and blood pressure and advise you of any changes you need.
Lifestyle habits, how high your blood pressure is to start with, and other medications can affect the length time it takes for Stamlo D to work.
If Stamlo D doesn’t have the desired effect, or isn’t suitable for you, your doctor may suggest some alternative treatments.
If you forget to take Stamlo D, you should take the missed dose as soon as you forget. If it’s almost time for you to take your next dose, just miss the forgotten one and continue to take your treatment as normal. Never take a double dose of Stamlo D.
If you take too much Stamlo D, seek medical attention immediately and take the packet of tablets with you so that your doctor can see how much you have taken.
