Concor AM is a combination treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure) that contains two blood pressure-lowering medications, amlodipine and bisoprolol. Both medicines are only available on prescription. Concor AM is often prescribed when a patient has taken either of these medications alone and it hasn’t worked well enough to lower their blood pressure. It’s a branded medicine that also goes by the names Zabesta AM, Corbis AM, Bisoheart AM and Bisomax AM.
A single tablet of Concor AM should be taken around the same time once a day with or without food. It’s best to take Concor AM around the same time each day as this makes the medication more effective. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. Your blood pressure will need to be monitored while taking Concor AM to ensure the dosage you’ve been prescribed is working for you.
Amlodipine is in a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers or calcium antagonists and can be used to treat hypertension and angina. They prevent calcium from entering the cells of the heart and arteries, allowing blood vessels to relax and widen. In return, the heart won’t have to pump as hard, which will lower your blood pressure.
Bisoprolol is from a class of medications called beta-blockers and is used to treat hypertension, angina and atrial fibrillation. Beta-blockers work by altering the way your body responds to certain nerve impulses, especially those in the heart. This will slow down your heart rate, which lowers your blood pressure as your heart won’t be pumping as hard.
Amlodipine and Bisoprolol exist as separate medications but they can both be found in Concor AM. They work together to lower your blood pressure and treat other heart-related problems, like angina and atrial fibrillation. This makes Concor AM a more effective treatment compared to taking these medicines on their own as they work together to treat your heart condition.
There are four doses of Concor AM:
The starting dose of Concor AM is usually 5mg/5mg. However, your doctor will decide the dose to prescribe you based on your health and the severity of your condition. If the starting dose is not effective at lowering your blood pressure, then your doctor will increase your dosage until positive results are seen after starting this medication.

Always take Concor AM as instructed by your doctor.
On average, you may start to see the effects of Concor AM 1-2 hours after taking it. The medication is fast-acting and very effective at lowering hypertension. Each tablet will remain in your system for 24 hours. Studies show that your blood pressure should return to a healthy level around six weeks after starting treatment.
Please note that everyone is different and the amount of time it can take for your blood pressure to get to the normal range can vary depending on how high it was to start with.
If you miss a dose and remember that you’ve missed it on the day it was due, you should take it as soon as you remember and continue to take the medication as normal. If you forget to take a dose and remember the following day, you should skip the missed dose and carry on as normal. You shouldn’t take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
If you take too much Concor AM, you should contact your doctor and take yourself to the nearest hospital immediately, especially if you start to show any symptoms of an overdose, which include sleepiness and dizziness. The amount that can lead to an overdose will vary between individuals and the dosage you’ve been prescribed.
