Telma Beta is a combination medication called an anti-hypertensive that is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It uses two active ingredients: telmisartan and metoprolol.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker, or ARB, which helps to relax and widen blood vessels, reducing pressure. Metoprolol is a beta-blocker that reduces heart rate and the force of the heartbeat, which also reduces blood pressure. Telma Beta combines these two effective ingredients into one to support your long-term health.
When you have hypertension, the blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to your heart are too narrow, which increases your heart rate as your it has to work harder to pump blood around your body. This can increase the risk of heart strain, which can lead to a stroke or potentially a heart attack. Telma Beta works to reverse these actions and improve your cardiovascular health.
Telmisartan is a type of drug called an angiotensin II receptor blocker (or ‘ARB’ for short). This medication stops a hormone called angiotensin II from making blood vessels narrow. When the blood vessels are constricted, it causes an increase in blood pressure. By blocking the angiotensin II receptors, Telmisartan helps to prevent its harmful effects by widening blood vessels. This widening of blood vessels makes it easier for blood to flow and lowers blood pressure.
Metoprolol is a type of medication called a beta-blocker. It functions by targeting beta receptors in the body, particularly beta-1 receptors that are mostly found in the heart. By binding to these receptors, Metoprolol minimises the impact of stress hormones like adrenaline and noradrenaline on the heart. This causes your heart to slow down and pump less forcibly, which means it doesn’t have to work as hard. As the heart pumps with less force and at a slower rate, it needs less oxygen, which decreases the overall demand for blood supply. This ultimately helps lower blood pressure.

When we present you with stats, data, opinion or a consensus, we’ll tell you where this came from. Your doctor will instruct you on when to take it and how long for, depending on some factors like your age, weight, and blood pressure. You should take your tablet with food and a glass of water at the same time each day to maintain stable levels of medicine in your blood.
There are three strengths available for Telma Beta:
You’ll usually start on the lowest dose first so your clinician can monitor how well it helps control your blood pressure, and then after a review they may decide to increase it if your BP is still high.
If you miss a dose of Telma Beta, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and wait to take it at your usual time. Don’t take a double dose to make up for the one you’ve forgotten.
